Why would I want to submit my sites to this - even if one of them is spam?? Usually, I DON'T want spam to get labeled as such.
I don't get the point of this.
PHP is what the majority of the successfull well-known sites in the world run on. Tat being said, it's not necessarily the "best" choice, but it's the one that's most widely-used.
That should tell you something. PHP is a good thing to know and use, if for no other reason that its widely used...
Well, get your feet wet by accumulating some basic knowledge first of all. Start off by reading (yes, just READ - don't post for a while) sites like Diorex's blog and WickedFire. You need to learn what people do, what works, and what doesn't and get a feel for what's going on out there.
Then...
Sweet...I like the tabbed sidebar thingys. I am definitely gonna try one of these out (since I make new sites each week) and see how they do. (I am always interested in the CTR for AdSense on themes.)
PSD file included too? Nice...
Well, you're off to a good start. There's not much I can say at this point ebing that there are only a few short articles, but you need to keep writing and also you need a "look" for your site. Lose the generic template! :)
You need to consistently blog, you need a nice site, and you need informative or interesting articles. It's like anything else in life: do it well, with distinction. Also, tell people about your blog. Make friends. Comment on other blogs.
And use FeedBurner, social networks, and bookmarking...
It will count, and it will even possibly be "followed" as in being followed for spidering purposes - but it will not pass pagerank.
That is the one distinction of nofollow (where Google is concerned) - no PR is passed to the page being linked to.
I think if you look at the keywords that people use to find your site, there will be "longtail" words in there. No matter what your niche.
The volume isn't ever as high as for "primary" kw's, but so what? There exists an opportunity to rank high for the longtails.
So do it. Create a page...
OK, this is a discussion near and dear to my heart. Or brain.
I have a rule, not totally articulated, but I keep the concept in my mind nonetheless. OldWelshGuy is right on the money in fact. Here's my rule: "Commercial tools are generally not as effective as custom-coded tools."
Now that...
Validation should not be misunderstood - i.e. it doesn't directly affect how a search engine "decides" to rank your site, necessarily. It's true: some badly-formed html can be found on top-ranking sites.
But, so what? So what if I could do a halfway job? Does that mean I should become lax?
No...
There is no "magic" to SEO, no matter which niche you're in. Some niches are more difficult and competitive than others, but the basics remain the same.
1. Content. Have good content in your site. Simple. Articles, tools, graphics, etc. that are helpful to people and meet the needs your site is...
I like Sphider a lot - plus it's very adaptable to other tasks if you don't want to use it straight-up as a search engine. (you can use it to do tons of stuff besides just return search results...)

Professionally I do a lot of PHP web app development and a lot of this is oriented toward SEO tools and apps which are meant to perform some SEO-related goal. Also, I run an...
I start immediately with AdSense and affiliate banners. Then again, I can usually get immediate traffic to a new site by linking to it from a few of my established sites. But regardless - there's no reason not to monetize (to some degree, even if small) immediately. In fact, plan it into the...
